The Russos on a new beginning with Avengers 4 and when we can expect a trailer

May 10, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors of Avengers 4, have spoken about how the film begins “a new book” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and what they know about the trailer’s release date.

Now that Avengers: Infinity War is out in the wild and earning obscene amounts of money, the Russos are starting to turn their attention to Avengers 4 and have told ComicBook.com that the movie begins what they describe as the next MCU book:

“I think that this is a hand-off from the last book,” Joe Russo said, “From the first to the next book that will be written.”

“If this is the final chapter of the book that’s been written for the last ten years, certainly it’s the final… there’s going to be some ending and some beginnings,” Joe continued. “To follow the last film in this first grand story that Marvel has told, to follow the O.G. Avengers into that story is certainly tantalizing for us as story tellers.”

And regarding when we might get a glimpse of Avengers 4 in the form of a trailer, Joe Russo told ComicBook.com:

“No idea. We haven’t cut any of the film together yet. We’ll have to see. We’ll get it set for the next two or three months.”

“Joe and I always talk about it, there’s this filmmaking adage that goes, ‘You make a movie three times over: when you write it, when you shoot it, and when you edit it,'” Anthony Russo added. “And so, right now, we have not edited that movie at all. So we haven’t even gone through that whole phase of finding that film. Not only that, we haven’t even completely finished shooting it. We still have to shoot some stuff to complete the movie and even though we’ve shot the vast majority of it.”

So it certainly sounds like releasing a trailer is the last thing on their mind, with major work to be done on getting Avengers 4 ready for its 2019 release.
