Don Cheadle’s Miles Ahead to close New York Film Festival

July 24, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

The organisers of this year’s New York Film Festival have this week announced that Miles Ahead will be the closing film of the festival, now in its 53rd year.

Miles Ahead is the biopic of legendary musician Miles Davis and marks the directorial debut of actor Don Cheadle (Boogie Nights), who also co-wrote the film and stars as the titular music genius. Emayatzy Corinealdi and Ewan McGregor co-star.

“I admire Don’s film because of all the intelligent decisions he’s made about how to deal with Miles, but I was moved—deeply moved—by Miles Ahead for other reasons,” said New York Film Festival director Kent Jones in a statement. (via The Hollywood Reporter)

“[Davis] changed the game time after time, and New York is really where it all took off for him. Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center feels very ‘right place, right time.’ Very exciting,” Cheadle himself said about the film’s premiere.

Robert Zemeckis’ The Walk, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, is the festival’s opening film.

The 53rd New York Film Festival runs from September 25th to October 11th.
