GLOW’s Marc Maron in talks to join Joker origin movie

July 31, 2018 by Ricky Church

It seems director Todd Phillips is ready to lock down another actor for Joker as Variety that reports GLOW star and comedian Marc Maron is now in talks to join the film. If he joins, he’ll be starring alongside Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz, Robert De Niro and Frances Conroy.

Maron’s role is said to be connected to De Niro’s character, talk show host Murray Franklin. According to Variety, Maron will play “an agent on Robert De Niro’s talk show who plays a part in booking Phoenix’s character, and eventually causing him to go mad and become the Clown Prince of Crime.”

Not much else is know about the film, though there have been some rumours regarding the plot floating around which may well feature some rather big spoilers.

UPDATE: The Hangover’s Bryan Callen has also revealed to The Fighter & The Kid podcast that he’s joined the film in what sounds like a minor role:

“I’m doing Joker. I was offered a part. That’ll be fun, but i think it’s only a couple days. Play an aging dancer, stripper. I don’t want to go into the details. I can’t go into the details, but just know it’s gonna be good. And I hope my psoriasis is flaring cause that’ll be very funny. I’ll be in a Speed-O, I can’t wait. I have some ideas for it.”

Joker will be the first in a series of separate films unconnected to the main DC Extended Universe which includes the upcoming Aquaman and Shazam!. Though Phoenix will portray The Joker in this film, Warner Bros. and DC have still maintained Jared Leto, who played Joker in Suicide Squad, will still star as the Clown Prince of Crime in the DCEU, and his own recently announced solo film.

Joker is being directed by Todd Phillips (The Hangover) and is said to be a gritty exploration of a man disregarded by society. It is set for release on October 4th 2019 and sees Joaquin Phoenix leading the cast as the Clown Prince of Crime alongside Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2), Robert De Niro (Goodfellas) and Frances Conroy (American Horror Story).
