Yann Demange is bookmakers’ favourite to replace Danny Boyle on Bond 25

August 22, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Following yesterday’s news that Danny Boyle has vacated the director’s chair on next year’s Bond 25 due to creative differences, French filmmaker Yann Demange (’71) has been installed as the bookmaker’s favourite to take over from the Oscar winning on Daniel Craig’s final 007 outing.

“Danny Boyle’s exit leaves a huge opportunity for a director to work with this iconic franchise and it will be fascinating to see who is given the reins on its newest instalment,” said Alan Alger of Betway. “Yann Demange’s gritty historical thriller ’71 has received widespread acclaim and he is our 5/2 frontrunner to receive the nod, while Bond stalwart Sam Mendes could return for a third film at 7/2. Other names linked with the opportunity include Dunkirk and Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan at 6/1. Steven Spielberg at 25/1 and Ridley Scott at 33/1 are outsiders to add another well-known title to their portfolio.”

Here’s the latest odds for the Bond 25 director:

Yann Demange 5/2
Denis Villeneuve 11/4
Sam Mendes 7/2
Christopher Nolan 6/1
Christopher McQuarrie 15/2
Steven Spielberg 25/1
Martin Scorcese 33/1
Ridley Scott 33/1

Doesn’t seem to be any love for David Mackenzie (Hell or High Water), who was rumoured to be on the original pre-Danny Boyle shortlist alongside Yann Demange and Denis Villeneueve. Surely worth a cheeky punt?
