Roberto Orci to executive produce Galaga TV series

August 27, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Back in July of last year it was announced that Bandai Namco is teaming with The Nuttery Entertainment for an animated series based upon the classic arcade game Galaga, and now comes word that the project has found an executive producer.

Deadline is reporting that writer-producer Robert Orci (Star Trek, Fringe) is set to serve as executive producer on the series, titled Galaga Chronicles, as well as helping The Nuttery to develop the show. Meanwhile, Emmy-winning animated studio ShadowMachine (BoJack Horseman, Robot Chicken, Final Space) has been hired as the animation company.

“Galaga is one of the games I played growing up,” stated Orci. “I have fond memories of the quarters and hours upon hours I spent playing the game. I look forward to working with The Nuttery and to capture that magic in an exciting new format.”

“We couldn’t be more stoked to have this level of creativity and craftsmanship on board our space adventure,” said Magnus Jansson, CEO of The Nuttery. “Roberto’s incredible sense of story and science fiction mastery and ShadowMachine’s excellent animation and design chops have already elevated the project to the next level. I think we are sitting on an amazing origin story for Galaga that will not disappoint fans of the game, or of science fiction in general.”

Galaga was first released in arcades back in 1981; a sequel to 1979’s Galaxian, the game is a Space Invaders-style shooter where the player takes control of a spacecraft in order to fight off wave after wave of alien enemies.
