Josh Trank places blame for poor Fantastic Four reviews on Fox

Director Josh Trank (Chronicle) has responded to the negative criticism aimed at his newest film Fantastic Four by seemingly placing the blame on 20th Century Fox.

On Thursday, Trank tweeted out the following, which was then quickly deleted…

Trank is obviously unhappy with the film’s final outcome, and he makes it very clear that at one point he had a good version of Fantastic Four. From there, it’s entirely possible that the studio seized creative control from him. 

Perhaps his experience on the film even prompted him to walk away from the Star Wars standalone project he was attached to for nearly a year?

It’s no exaggeration to say that Fantastic Four has been one of the worst reviewed superhero films ever. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film currently sits at 9%, a score lower than both 2005’s Fantastic Four (27%) and 2007’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (37%).

Fantastic Four is in theaters now, and it features a cast that includes Miles Teller (Whiplash) as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Kate Mara (House of Cards) as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station) as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot) as Ben Grimm/The Thing, Toby Kebbell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) as Doctor Doom, Reg E. Cathey (House of Cards) as Dr. Storm, and Tim Blake Nelson (The Incredible Hulk) as Harvey Elder/Mole Man. Listen to the Flickering Myth Podcast review of the movie using the player below:
