Supergirl adds Hannah James and Kate Burton as Nia Nal’s sister and mother

November 14, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

The CW’s DC superhero show Supergirl has added two new recurring cast members in Hannah James (Mercy Street) and Kate Burton (Scandal), with the duo set to portray Nia Nal’s (Nicole Maines) older sister Maeve and mother Isabel respectively.

Deadline reports that Maeve is described as being “driven and focused on maintaining the Nal family’s rich legacy. She and Nia have a strong sisterly bond, although Maeve has always had to work harder to achieve what comes naturally to Nia.”

Isabel meanwhile is “the warm and nurturing mother of Nia Nal, and a local hero in her own right. She is a wise and generous matriarch and has raised her family to be bold and courageous, as well as to love fiercely and openly.”

Nia Nal made her debut in the current fourth season of Supergirl, played by transgender actress Nicole Maines, the character will go on to become Dreamer, TV’s first transgender superhero.

Supergirl season 4 airs on Sundays on The CW.
