M. Night Shyamalan reveals the aggressive way Samuel L. Jackson bugged him for an Unbreakable sequel

January 18, 2019 by Samuel Brace

M. Night Shyamalan, the director of Glass, has revealed how Samuel L. Jackson repeatedly requested a sequel to Unbreakable.

Glass, the sequel to both Split and Unbreakable, is now almost upon us, with fans eager to see how the saga will continue with this third film. Many fans thought they would never get a sequel to Unbreakable before Split‘s surprise reveal as a follow up to that film and now with Glass bringing both Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson back, people are pretty excited.

Jackson is one person who didn’t give up on the idea of an Unbreakable sequel and M. Night Shyamalan has revealed how the actor repeatedly bugged him about it. Speaking to Cinema Blend, the director said:

“I would just see [Samuel L. Jackson] randomly if I was in Los Angeles — and I don’t go to Los Angeles hardly at all. So one time I was driving on the studio lot and his car came, and he rolled down the window and he’s like, ‘When are we making that sequel motherfucker?’ I was like, ‘Oh, I’m working on it. I’m working on it, man. I’m working on it, I got to drive, bye.’

“And then literally, I think another year later I was at a red light in Los Angeles, and his car pulled up again next to me and he goes, ‘When we making that sequel motherfucker?’ And I’m like, ‘I’m working on it, I’m almost there!’ And really I hadn’t worked on it at all. I was just trying to drive away. So when I finally did call them, they were super, super supportive.”

So perhaps we can thank Jackson just a little bit for pestering Shyamalan, who knows, it might have given him that extra little push or kept the idea of an Unbreakable sequel on his mind. Are you looking forward to Glass?

Following the conclusion of Split, Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men. This riveting culmination of his worldwide blockbusters will be produced by Shyamalan and Jason Blum.

Glass will see the return of Bruce Willis (David Dunn), Samuel L. Jackson (Elijah Price), Spencer Treat Clark (Joseph Dunn) and Charlayne Woodard (Mrs. Price) from Unbreakable and James McAvoy (Kevin Wendell Crumb) and Anya Taylor-Joy (Casey Cooke) from Split, while Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story) also stars.
