Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials opens in the US to $30 million; now on $108 million worldwide

September 21, 2015 by admin

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials is off and running at the US box office, with an impressive opening weekend.

Opening in around 3,700 screens in the US, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials opened to $30.3 million and took the number one spot, facing fierce competition from Johnny Depp’s Black Mass, which opened to $23.3 million. Adding to its total is a worldwide take of $78 million, and Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials is currently boasting a $108 million total.

While not devastating, it should be noted that the first film, The Maze Runner, opened to $32 million. However, that film was not competing against the heavily promoted Black Mass nor the IMAX release of Everest, which did huge numbers.

In this next chapter of the epic “Maze Runner” saga, Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) and his fellow Gladers face their greatest challenge yet: searching for clues about the mysterious and powerful organization known as WCKD. Their journey takes them to the Scorch, a desolate landscape filled with unimaginable obstacles. Teaming up with resistance fighters, the Gladers take on WCKD’s vastly superior forces and uncover its shocking plans for them all.

Starring Dylan O’Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Will Poulter, Nathalie Emmanuel, Patricia Clarkson, Rosa Salazar, Aidan Gillen and Giancarlo Esposito, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials is once again directed by Wes Ball, and is out now.
