Ben Affleck’s The Batman would have taken us inside Arkham Asylum

September 10, 2019 by Samuel Brace

The former cinematographer for Ben Affleck’s dead The Batman movie reveals that the film would take audiences inside Arkham Asylum.

Arkham Asylum is a true fan favourite location, with so many great Batman moments taking places insides its creepy walls. We’ve seen the location briefly on film before but apparently, Ben Affleck’s now dead The Batman would have given us a new look inside.

Speaking to the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Robert Richardson – who was going to act as cinematographer for Affleck’s film – revealed: “I wanted to shoot Batman with Ben [Affleck] cause that was the next film we had. There was a script, but not a loved script. There was a lot of work he was doing to it to change it. He was going into the more insanity aspects… He was entering more into the Arkham, he’s going into where everyone was bad.”

When Richardson was told that Arkham hadn’t been explored very much on film before, he said: “No, and that’s where we were going. I was very interested in that one.”

Of course, now Matt Reeves is helming the picture so it will be interesting to see if Arkham makes any kind of appearance in his version of the film. Would you have liked to have seen a Batman film set inside Arkham Asylum? Let us know in the comments below and on Twitter @flickeringmyth…

The Batman is set for a June 25th, 2021 release, with Robert Pattinson donning the cape and cowl as the new Dark Knight.
