Rumour: Gugu Mbatha-Raw joins Star Wars: Episode VIII shortlist

October 3, 2015 by Gary Collinson

So, this one comes from Latino-Review, so have your pinch of salt at the ready, but according to the site Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Doctor Who, Belle) has joined the shortlist of actresses said to be in contention for a new female lead in Star Wars: Episode VIII.

The original shortlist was said to include Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) and Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel), and there had been speculation that the role could be the daughter of one of the Original Trilogy characters (if you want to know who, click here).
