Review – Heroes Reborn: Event Series – The Official Magazine #1

October 6, 2015 by Tai Freligh

Tai Freligh reviews Heroes Reborn: Event Series – The Official Magazine #1.

To coincide with the launch of the television series Heroes Reborn, Titan Magazines is publishing the Heroes Reborn: Event Series – The Official Magazine, with issue #1 hitting shelves on October 6th.

“We are excited to be working in collaboration with the team behind NBC’s Heroes Reborn. The magazine will give fans everything they need to know about the eagerly awaited sequel to the global smash hit,” said Chris Teather, Publishing Director, Titan Magazines.

This new magazine is chock full of great information about Heroes Reborn, including interviews with cast and crew, set visits and helpful factoids like a character guide, bits of info about the app and digital series Dark Matters, the video games, as well as the science behind some of the characters’ superpowers and a handy episode guide to the first 11 of 13 chapters.

The interviews with folks on the technical side of things is very illuminating and interesting.  Creator and show runner Tim Kring talks about the genesis of the new show and how the magic is made, director Matt Shakman reveals how he reinvented Heroes Reborn for a new age of viewers, production designer Matthew Davies goes behind the scenes to explain how they can make a show that spans the globe, costume designer Barbara Somerville discusses how her team creates the looks for everything from a sword-wielding girl to a chic CEO and a costumed vigilante.  The list of interviews goes on and on.

Fans will get a greater understanding of the motivation behind several of the characters on the show through interviews with original cast members like Jack Coleman (Noah Bennet/HRG) and Jimmy Jean-Louis (The Haitian), while conversations with new cast members like Zachary Levi (Luke), Robbie Kay (Tommy), Judith Shekoni (Joanne), Kiki Sukezane (Miko), and Toru Uchikado (Ren) help us get a deeper understanding of these character’s arcs and motivations for why they do what they do.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this magazine and felt like I was getting insider access to the show with all the artwork, interviews, photos and information that was packed into 50 pages.  I look forward to the next issue and give this magazine a wholehearted 10 out of 10 stars.
