Sony pulls Masters of the Universe from release schedule, delays Uncharted again

January 25, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Sony Pictures has just announced a shake-up to its upcoming release schedule, which includes changes to two projects that have spent much of the past decade in development hell.

Firstly, the long-gestating Masters of the Universe reboot has been pulled from Sony’s release schedule completely, while its March 5th 2021 date will now be filled with the video game adaptation Uncharted, which has been pushed back from December 18th 2020 in the wake of the departure of its most recent director Travis Knight (Bumblebee).

Masters of the Universe was set to be directed by Aaron and Adam Nee (Band of Robbers), with Noah Centino (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before) attached to portray He-Man. It’s status is now unclear, although it was rumoured last year that Netflix had been in talks with Sony about potentially picking up the film, which is of course based upon the classic Mattel toy property.

Uncharted meanwhile is currently looking for the latest in a long line of of filmmakers to take on directing duties on the project, with the studio reportedly eyeing Zombieland and Venom helmer Ruben Fleischer. Despite Knight’s exit, both Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg currently remain on board to portray Nathan Drake and Victor ‘Sully’ Sullivan respectively.
