HBO Max is still scheduled to launch this May says CEO

April 2, 2020 by Samuel Brace

HBO Max is still on course to launch this May according to Warner Media’s new CEO.

The streaming service landscape is increasingly crowded and the next heavyweight to enter the fray is HBO Max, a platform planning original content such as the Gossip Girl reboot, Freinds reunion, and DC’s Green Lantern series.

The platform has been scheduled to launch this May and apparently the global health crisis isn’t going to delay things. Last week, WarnerMedia’s outgoing CEO John Stankey announced (via ComicBook.com):

“We’ve also had to reorient how our businesses operate in this uncharted landscape, and our senior leaders are working together to adapt and execute in new ways. To that end, I’d like to share some status updates, and some of the ways we are facing these challenges. Our tech teams have been operating under very unique circumstances and have adapted quickly to a new way of working so that the launch of HBO Max remains on schedule for May; and the marketing team has had to recast plans to reach potential subscribers in innovative ways.”

Now, WarnerMedia’s new CEO Jason Kilar has confirmed this news to CNBC.

So, audiences will have one more avenue for consuming content during the lockdown, hopefully providing another pleasant distraction from all that is occurring.
