The Uncharted movie FINALLY starts filming

July 21, 2020 by Gary Collinson

More than a decade after first squiring the big screen rights to the franchise, Sony Pictures’ Uncharted movie has finally began filming in Germany this week, with Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Far From Home) taking on the lead role of adventurer Nathan Drake.

Uncharted is being directed by Ruben Fleischer (Venom, Zombieland) and was just about to commence principal photography in Berlin in March when sets were shut down due to the global health crisis. Local productions in Germany have been up and running since June, with production companies adhering to strict rules imposed by the government including no large crowd scenes or interior sequences featuring a large number of people.

The adaptation of the Naughty Dog video game has been in the works since 2008, having passed through the hands of a host of directors including David O. Russell (The Fighter), Neil Burger (Divergent), Seth Gordon (Baywatch), Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum), Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane) and Travis Knight (Bumblebee).

After such a prolonged journey to the screen already, let’s hope the production manages to go as smoothly as possible given the current circumstances.

Uncharted is currently set for release on July 16th 2021 and sees Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlbergas Victor Sullivan, along with Antonio Banderas, Sophia Taylor Ali and Tati Gabrielle.
