Brian K. Vaughan to script Buck Rogers reboot

December 14, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Back in October it was announced that Legendary Pictures had acquired the rights to Buck Rogers with plans for a multi-platform reboot of the classic sci-fi character, including a feature film and prestige TV series.

Well, we now have word that Brian K. Vaughan, the comic book creator behind the likes of Runaways, Saga and Y: The Last Man, has signed on to write the television component. Vaughn does have past TV experience, having written episodes of Lost as well as serving as showrunner on the Stephen King adaptation Under the Dome.

Buck Rogers first appeared in a 1928 issue of Amazing Stories in a tale entitled Armageddon 2419 A.D., and it wasn’t long before the character branched out into comics, radio plays, and a movie serial starring Buster Crabbe (who also had the distinction of portraying fellow heroes Tarzan and Flash Gordon). Gil Gerard later took on the role for the NBC TV series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, which ran for two seasons between 1979 and 1981.

Don Murphy (Transformers) and Susan Montford (Real Steel) are producing the Buck Rogers series alongside Flint Dille, grandson of John F. Dille, publisher of the original comic book strip.
