Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark bumped to September

January 14, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

It appears that not even Tony Soprano can pull strings or apply mob pressure in order to avoid a release date change in the current climate, with Variety reporting yet another delay for New Line Cinemas and Warner Bros. The Sopranos prequel, The Many Saints of Newark.

Originally set for release on 25th September last year, before moving to March 2021, we’ll now have to wait almost a year from that original date to watch Michael Gandolfini walk in the giant footsteps of his late father, James Gandolfini. As part of the controversial simultaneous theatrical and streaming approach applied to all of Warner Bros. 2021 release slate, The Many Saints of Newark will now hit cinemas and HBO Max on Sept 24th, 2021.  As of now there are no details on the international roll out.

Written by The Sopranos head-honcho David Chase, with Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) calling the shots, The Many Saints of Newark is set in the 1960s during the era of the Newark riots and explores the rise of the DiMeo crime family.

Starring alongside Michael Gandolfini are an impressive ensemble featuring Alessandro Nivola (Disobedience), Ray Liotta (Goodfellas), Jon Bernthal (The Punisher), Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring), Corey Stoll (The Strain), Billy Magnussen (Game Night), John Magaro (Not Fade Away) and Leslie Odom Jr. (Murder on the Orient Express).
