Cate Blanchett in negotiations to join the cast of Thor: Ragnarok

December 11, 2015 by Justin Cook

Another Oscar winner may be coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Cate Blanchett in final talks to join the cast of 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok. According to Variety, the role the actress will play in the film is unknown; however, some fans have speculated that it’s entirely possible she could be playing such characters from the comics as Valkyrie, Hela or The Enchantress.

Blanchett has consistently been called one of the best actresses working today and is a major get for Marvel. In fact, just yesterday she earned her ninth career Golden Globe nomination for her critically praised performance in this year’s Carol. Of course, in the past she has starred in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Blue Jasmine and much more.

Thor: Ragnarok is the highly-anticipated third installment in the Thor series, which will follow up 2011’s Thor and 2013’s Thor: The Dark World.

Some of Marvel’s heaviest hitters are already set to star in the film, including Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Jaime Alexander (Lady Sif), Tom Hiddleston (Loki) and Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), so Blanchett’s involvement will be making a great cast even stronger.

Thor: Ragnarok, which is directed by Taika Waititi, will thunder into theaters on November 3, 2017, right in between the untitled Spider Man reboot and Black Panther in the Marvel slate.
