Hayley Atwell is Lara Croft in Netflix’s Tomb Raider anime series

September 13, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Captain America and Agent Carter star Hayley Atwell is set to lend her voice to the iconic video game character Lara Croft in Netflix’s upcoming anime series adaptation of Tomb Raider.

As per Deadline, the animated series from Netflix and Legendary takes place after the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy, taking place some 25 years after the 2013 game and “charting the globetrotting heroine’s latest and greatest adventure as she continues to explore new territory.”

The series is being written by Tasha Huo (The Witcher: Blood Origin), who executive produces with Dmitri M. Johnson (Sonic the Hedgehog), while Legendary Entertainment produces.

The hugely successful Tomb Raider franchise has previously spawned three movies, the first two with Angelina Jolie in the lead role before a 2018 reboot starring Alicia Vikander. A sequel to that movie is currently in development and has Misha Green (Lovecraft County) on board to direct.

The Lara Croft casting marks another voice role for Atwell, who recently portrayed a Captain Carter incarnation of her MCU character Peggy Carter in Marvel’s What If…?. She will next be seen on the big screen opposite Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible 7.
