First look at Christian Bale, Margot Robbie and John David Washington in David O. Russell’s newly titled Amsterdam

May 1, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

With a cast list to rival Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, David O. Russell’s previously untitled ensemble piece has now been given the title of Amsterdam, and we’ve also been treated to a first look at the film during 20th Century Studios’ CinemaCon panel.

Described as a “romantic crime epic”, what few details that were ascertained about Amsterdam revealed that it takes place in quirky and mysterious 1930s world, where the leading trio of Christian Bale (The Dark Knight), Margot Robbie (The Suicide Squad) and John David Washington (Tenet) “find themselves at the center of one of the most secret plots in American history.”

Amsterdam is David O. Russell’s first film since 2015’s largely ignored Jennifer Lawrence bi-mop-ic Joy, but the director of American Hustle and The Fighter has spent the time exhausting his rolodex to fill out a whopping cast that also includes Rami Malek (No Time to Die), Zoe Saldana (Guardians of the Galaxy), Robert De Niro (The Irishman), Mike Myers (Austin Powers), Timothy Olyphant (Justified), Michael Shannon (Knives Out), Chris Rock (Spiral), Anya Taylor-Joy (Queen’s Gambit), Andrea Riseborough (Possessor), Matthias Schoenaerts (The Old Guard) and Alessandro Nivola (The Red Sea Diving Resort).

Amsterdam will be released on November 4th, 2022.
