Rob Zombie settles on R rated cut for 31

January 7, 2016 by Robert Kojder

It was revealed last week that Rob Zombie’s latest horror flick, 31, had been given the dreaded NC-17 rating by the MPAA. For those unfamiliar with American rating system, that basically means no mainstream theater will carry the movie – therefore ensuring it will make virtually no money.

The MPAA description originally described 31 as containing “sadistic graphic violence and bizarre sexual content” among other things. Zombie has now settled on a new cut for 31, which is officially rated R for “strong bloody horror violence, pervasive language, sexual content and drug use.”

31 tells the story of five carnies in 1976 kidnapped on the morning of Halloween and held hostage in a remote industrial Hell. While trapped, they are forced to play a violent game called 31. The mission is to survive 12 hours against an endless gang of grease-painted maniacs.

31 premieres at Sundance later this month, and stars Sheri Moon-Zombie (The Devil’s Rejects), Malcolm McDowell (Halloween), Richard Brake (Thor: The Dark World), Elizabeth Dailey (The Powerpuff Girls), Meg Foster (They Live) and former porn star Ginger Lynn.
