Barbara Broccoli says the next Bond will be a “reinvention” and is “at least two years away” from filming

July 3, 2022 by Gary Collinson

With Daniel Craig’s time as 007 coming to an end with the long-delayed, long-awaited release of No Time to Die last year, producer Barbara Broccoli has been chatting to Deadline about the future of Ian Fleming’s iconic super spy, and it seems we’re going to have to wait a while before James Bond makes his grand return.

“Nobody’s in the running,” said Broccoli when asked how far along the process of recruiting the 007th James Bond we are. “We’re working out where to go with him. We’re talking that through. There isn’t a script, and we can’t come up with one until we decide how we’re going to approach the next film because, really, it’s a reinvention of Bond. We’re reinventing who he is, and that takes time. I’d say that filming is at least two years away.”

The next Bond movie – the 26th in the official series – will not only introduce a new 007, but it will also be the first to be produced under streaming giant Amazon, which acquired the rights to the franchise with its $8.45 billion acquisition of MGM.
