Jake Gyllenhaal’s Road House remake adds Billy Magnussen, Daniela Melchior, Conor McGregor and more

August 4, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Last year it was announced that Jake Gyllenhaal and director Doug Liman would be teaming for a remake of the 1989 cult classic Road House, and now comes word that the project is officially a go under the now-Amazon owned MGM.

The new film will see Gyllenhaal following in the footsteps of Patrick Swayze, as he takes on the role of a former UFC fighter who takes a job as a cooler at a rough roadside bar in the Florida Keys, updating the original’s location of Missouri.

In addition to Gyllenhaal, the cast of the film is set to include Billy Magnussen, Daniela Melchior, Lukas Gage, Hannah Love Lanier, Travis Van Winkle, B.K. Cannon, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Arturo Castro, Dominique Columbus, Beau Knapp and Bob Menery, as well as UFC star Conor McGregor in his acting debut.

“I’m thrilled to put my own spin on the beloved Road House legacy,” said Liman. “And I can’t wait to show audiences what Jake and I are going to do with this iconic role.”

The original Road House was directed by Rowdy Herrington and saw Patrick Swayze as James Dalton, with a cast that also included Kelly Lynch, Sam Elliott, and Ben Gazzara. Despite mixed reviews, the film grossed $61 million worldwide and subsequently enjoyed further success through its home video release.
