Bruce Timm’s Batman: Caped Crusader axed at HBO Max, but will be shopped around

August 23, 2022 by EJ Moreno

In another casualty of the shifting landscape at Warner Bros Discovery and HBO Max, the hotly-anticipated Batman: Caped Crusader is no longer planned for the streamer.

Batman: Caped Crusader was given a series order from HBO Max and Cartoon Network around 15 months ago, where we would’ve seen Bruce Timm’s long-awaited return to Batman animation on television.

Batman: Caped Crusader was a planned sequel series to Batman: The Animated Series. It comes from co-creator Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams, and The Batman director Matt Reeves with animation producer James Tucker as co-executive producer.

Timm, Abrams, and Reeves were to serve as executive producers alongside Brubaker for the first season, which has been revealed to run for ten episodes. Timm also had the showrunner title and led the writer’s room with Brubaker.

Batman: Caped Crusader joins Merry Little Batman, The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Toons Movie, Bye Bye Bunny: A Looney Toons Musical, Did I Do That To The Holidays: A Steve Urkel Story, and The Amazing World Of Gumball: The Movie as projects that will no longer be produced by HBO Max, but will be shopped to other potential outlets.

Let’s hope it finds another home…
