White Boy Rick’s Yann Demange to direct Marvel’s Blade

November 22, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Marvel’s Blade has been more concerned with hunting down a director than pursuing vampires since Mogul Mowgli’s Bassam Tariq ditched the Daywalker back in September, but now they’ve found one in the form of ’71 and White Boy Rick helmer Yann Demange.

Deadline confirm that Demange, who most recently directed episodes of HBO’s Lovecraft Country, will take control of the Mahershala Ali headlined reboot with the intention of finally getting the oft-delayed production underway next year. He’s not the only new addition either, because Michael Starrbury (When They See Us) has been hired to write a new script.

Marvel’s Blade will introduce Mahershala Ali to the MCU, as he steps into the shoes of Wesley Snipes as Eric Brooks, a dhampir whose mother was bitten and killed by a vampire while giving birth to him and who now stalks and hunts the vampire community as the Daywalker.

Ali’s Blade actually made his MCU debut with a voice cameo in the credits sting of last year’s Eternals, seemingly setting up Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman for an appearance in the film, although that is yet to be announced. Definitely confirmed to star alongside Ali are Delroy Lindo (Da 5 Bloods) and Aaron Pierre (Old).

What do you think of Marvel’s choice of director? Do the delays and script start-overs have you worried about the prospects for Blade? Let us know by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…

Blade is tentatively set for release on September 6th 2024.
