Mortal Kombat 1 officially announced with reveal trailer

May 18, 2023 by Olly Dyche

After the phenomenal ending of the Mortal Kombat story we once knew in Mortal Kombat 11, fans have been beyond excited to see where the next game will take them and today Warner Bros and NetherRealm have announced their latest title, Mortal Kombat 1.

The upcoming title will introduce players to a reborn Mortal Kombat storyline that was created by Fire God Lui Kang at the end of Mortal Kombat 11. The new game and story will feature reimagined versions of iconic characters like Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Mileena, Kitana, Raiden, Johnny Cage, Shang Tsung and Kung Lao just to name a few.

The reveal came in the form of an announcement trailer which NetherRealm have been teasing on their YouTube channel for the past week with various cryptic videos of a clock. Mortal Kombat 1’s trailer features a plethora of fan favorite Mortal Kombat characters like we have never seen them before, plus a whole bunch of gruesome fatalities, getting us beyond excited for the next installment – or should we say reboot – of the Mortal Kombat franchise. Check out the trailer here…

Starting tomorrow (May 19th) Mortal Kombat 1 will be available for pre-order, with the title set to release on September 19th on Playstation 5, Xbox series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC. Players can pre-order one of three editions:

The Standard Edition, which grants players access to the base game, Shang Tsung as a playable character and the chance to play the Beta which is set to become available some time in August 2023.

The Premium Edition, including everything from the Standard Edition, the Kombat Pack, complete with a Jean-Claude Van Damme Johnny Cage Skin (available at launch), 1,250 Dragon Krystals (in-game currency) and  early access to six new-playable characters (available post-launch) and five new Kameo Fighters (available post-launch). On top of that, those who pre-order The Premium Edition will be lucky enough to get early access to the game, beginning September 14th, five days before the game’s official release.

Finally, the Collectors Edition will include all the Premium Edition content, early access, along with 16.5 inch Liu Kang sculpture designed by COARSE and an inspired Liu Kang in-game character skin. In addition, players will also receive three exclusive art prints, a steel case and 1,450 additional Dragon Krystals (2,700 total). The Collectors Edition will only be available at select retailers and only on the PS5 and the Xbox Series X|S.
