The Flash director dives into the most WTF cameo from upcoming DC movie

May 24, 2023 by EJ Moreno

MAJOR THE FLASH SPOILERS BELOW…

Superman is in The Flash, just not the actor you are expecting.

In a recent interview, fans have received confirmation that the Man of Steel will appear in the summer’s most-anticipated superhero movie. But this time, director Andy Muschietti says it will be the iconic actor Nicolas Cage playing the Man of Steel.

During an interview with Esquire Middle East, Muschietti dropped the bombshell that Cage appears in a brief cameo in The Flash, giving us a tease of the Cage’s long-awaited Superman debut.

Muschietti tells the outlet, “Nic was absolutely wonderful. Although the role was a cameo, he dove into it… I dreamt all my life to work with him. I hope I can work with him again soon. He is a massive Superman fan. A comic book fanatic.”

For those who don’t know, Nicolas Cage was cast in Tim Burton’s failed Superman Lives 25 years ago, but the project never materialized. After helping launch the 90s comic book craze with the Batman movie franchise for Warner Bros, Burton turned his attention to Superman with a script by Kevin Smith and a story centered on Superman’s fight against Doomsday.

While there’s no official word on what happens during the cameo in The Flash, rumors have swirled that Cage will appear as Barry Allen races through the multiverse. Other legendary DC cameos are also said to happen in the film, but we will have to wait and see this June.

Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?

The Flash is directed by Andy Muschietti (It) and stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash alongside Kiersey Clemons (Iris West), Ben Affleck (Batman), Michael Keaton (Batman), Sasha Calle (Supergirl), Michael Shannon (General Zod), Antje Traue (Faora-Ul), Kiersey Clemons (Iris West), Ron Livingston (Henry Allen), Jeremy Irons (Alfred Pennyworth) and Maribel Verdu (Nora Allen).

The Flash is set for release on June 16th, 2023.
