Hayao Miyazaki’s How Do You Live? to release without any trailers or marketing

June 7, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

It’s testament to the power of his name alone that Hayao Miyazaki’s forthcoming and final animated movie How Do You Live? will be released without any trailers or marketing images.

The legendary director’s Ghibli swansong will receive its world premiere in Japan on July 14, and that will be the first time anybody gets an idea of what How Do You Live? is about.

Initially reported as an adaptation of Genzaburō Yoshino’s 1937 book Kimi-tachi wa Dō Ikiru ka (a.k.a. How Do You Live?), it has since been revealed that the Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke and Howl’s Moving Castle director has created an original story, and that the film simply shares a title with his favourite childhood novel. How Do You Live‘s Producer and Studio Ghibli executive Suzuki Toshio has called it a “big fantastical film”.

GKIDS has acquired North American theatrical distribution rights for How Do You Live?, but as-of-yet there is no official release date.
