Final Destination producer reveals original plans for Devon Sawa’s Alex

August 8, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Take a walk down memory lane when the Final Destination movies were the campy horror madness we all craved. Well, producer Jeffrey Reddick is revisiting his time with that franchise and spilling new deets about the original fate of Devon Sawa’s character.

While promoting his latest project, Til Death Do Us Part, Reddick took time to look at all things Final Destination. Long-time fans of the franchise know the character Alex, played by Sawa, was killed off between the first and second entries, but that obviously wasn’t always the plan.

Reddick broke down what was supposed to happen in his recent Collider interview: “I wanted to bring both Alex and Clear back. There were some issues with scheduling and stuff with getting Devon Sawa back, and I got annoyed how they just killed him off with a brick, which I thought was a big fuck you. That’s really my only complaint with Final Destination 2.”

He continues, fleshing out his plans and stating, “If I had them both back, I had always planned on killing Clear, but I wanted to keep Alex alive. I had a cool twist at the end where it still was, you know, she has a life that saves her life, but then death gets her once she has the kid, and Alex is still kind of the torch-bearer.”

Reddick concludes, “That was my original take, but with the scheduling stuff, we ended up with no Alex. And I’m like, ‘Ah, if I’d known we weren’t gonna bring Alex back, I would have not have killed Clear,’ because I love bringing original people back, but I don’t like killing them.”

With a new Final Destination reportedly on the way once the Hollywood strike concludes, let’s see if they begin the “requel” as so many other horror franchises and find a way to make a sequel to the original outing.

Til Death Do Us Part is now playing. Read our review here.
