First trailer for Drive My Car director Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s Evil Does Not Exist

October 3, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s Venice Film Festival Jury prize-winning drama Evil Does Not Exist has just unveiled its first trailer courtesy of Screen International.

Hamaguchi follows his Oscar winning Drive My Car with this eco-drama that tells the story of Takumi and his daughter, who live in a small village near Tokyo. Their idyllic existence is thrown into doubt when plans to build a tourist-trap glamping site emerge to disrupt their way of life.

Evil Does Not Exist stars Hitoshi Omika, Ryo Nishikawa, Ryuji Kosaka, Ayaka Shibutani, Hazuki Kikuchi, and Hiroyuki Miura. Check out the trailer below…

A father and daughter’s peaceful lives in a small village outside of Tokyo are disrupted by a new camping site development in Hamaguchi’s latest film following Oscar-winner Drive My Car.

Evil Does Not Exist will screen at the Busan, New York and London film festivals, before releasing sometime in 2024.
