Will Forte says we’ll probably never get to see the “incredible” Coyote vs. Acme

February 29, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

Coyote vs. Acme star Will Forte has opened up about the Warner Bros. tax write-off Looney Tunes comedy, calling the film “incredible”, but adding that it’s looking like audiences will never get to see it.

When Warner Bros. dropped a giant anvil off a cliff edge, straight on top of Coyote vs. Acme, making it the third high-profile cost-cutting casualty for the studio after Batgirl and Scoob: Holiday Haunt, an outcry from animators led to a potential bidding war for the $70 million-budgeted live-action/CG animation hybrid feature.

However, the auction only led to bids from Netflix and Paramount putting forth offers between $30M-$50M, leaving Warner Bros. with the decision to take a $30 million tax write-off instead.

Now Forte, who was set to star as the lawyer to the perennially put-upon Wile E. Coyote, has taken to X to reveal that “I know that a lot of you haven’t gotten a chance to see our movie. And sadly, it’s looking like you never will,” he continued “When I first heard that our movie was getting ‘deleted,’ I hadn’t seen it yet. So I was thinking what everyone else must have been thinking: this thing must be a hunk of junk. But then I saw it. And it’s incredible.” You can read the full statement below…

Directed by David Green (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows), from a script by Samy Brunch, Jeremy Slater, and James Gunn, Coyote vs. Acme also featured John Cena (Peacemaker), and Lana Candor (To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before).

The official logline for the film we’ll never get to see followed “Wile E. Coyote, who after ACME products fail him one too many times in his dogged pursuit of the Roadrunner, decides to hire a billboard lawyer to sue the ACME Corporation. The case pits Wile E. and his lawyer (Forte) against the latter’s intimidating former boss (Cena), but a growing friendship between man and cartoon stokes their determination to win.”
