Elizabeth Banks’ The Invisible Woman stuck in developmental hell

August 4, 2024 by EJ Moreno

In 2019, Elizabeth Banks joined a horror comedy project based on The Invisible Woman. Now, the project seems to have been delayed indefinitely.

Penned by Erin Cressida Wilson, Banks would follow the lead set by Leigh Whannell’s 2020 film The Invisible Man. While that film has a sequel on the way, the Elizabeth Bank-helmed Invisible adaptation is stalling out.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, the filmmaker confirms the rocky development, with Banks revealing in the interview: “For one thing, what happened was they made an Invisible Man movie, and they’re making another one, so I think Universal wants to see that through.”

She adds, “I’m really interested in the idea that we have, and it is still there, but it’s not something I’m actively working on in this moment in time. I’m making a television show right now. Then I got to go make another television show, and then we’ll see what the heck we’re going to do.”

This won’t be the only Elizabeth Banks project delayed or cancelled. Her adult-themed Flintstones sequel, Bedrock, was recently cancelled at Fox. The actress recently starred in A Mistake, a New Zealand thriller by Christine Jeffs. It had its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival this June.

Stay tuned to Flickering Myth for more updates on what Banks is doing.
