Mary Elizabeth Winstead joins Maika Monroe in The Hand That Rocks the Cradle remake

October 15, 2024 by Gary Collinson

Last month it was announced that Maika Monroe (Longlegs) will be starring in a remake of the 1992 psychological thriller The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, and now comes word that Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Birds of Prey) has also joined the cast of the upcoming film.

The original film, directed by Curtis Hanson, saw Rebecca De Mornay playing the vengeful widow of a sex offender, who seeks revenge against one of her husband’s victims (Annabella Sciorra) and her family for her part in exposing his crimes leading to his suicide by posing as a nanny.

The new take on The Hand That Rocks the Cradle is being directed by Michelle Garza Cervera (Huesera: The Bone Woman) from a script by Micah Bloomberg (Homecoming), with 20th Century Studios producing.  Monroe will play the nanny character, with Winstead as the wife and mother in what is being called a “two-hander”.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead is coming off the Showtime series A Gentleman in Moscow, and was also recently seen as Hera Syndulla in Disney+’s Star Wars: Ahsoka, as well as reprising her Scott Pilgrim vs. the World role as Ramona Flowers for the Netflix animated series Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.
