Yorgos Lanthimos has picked one of Hollywood’s underrated gems for his upcoming alien conspiracy movie as Alicia Silverstone is set to join Bugonia, which already has Emma Stone and Jesse Plemon attached to lead. Details of Silverstone’s role are being kept under wraps.
Silverstone is best known for her iconic role in Clueless. She’s also appeared in cult classics like The Crush, Batman & Robin, and Blast From The Blast. She had a memorable role in the 2017 Lanthimos film The Killing of a Sacred Deer.
Bugonia follows two conspiracy-obsessed young men who kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying the planet. The script is from Will Tracy (The Menu) and is based on the 2003 South Korean comedy Save the Green Planet!.
Bugonia was developed by Parasite producer CJ ENM with Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen at Square Peg. Lanthomis, Aster, and Knudson are producing the project with Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe alongside Stone, Miky Lee, and Jerry Kyoungboum Ko.
Focus Features will release the film in theaters on Nov. 7, 2025, with Universal Pictures distributing internationally.
