KPop Demon Hunters 2 officially in development for 2029 release

November 6, 2025 by Ricky Church

After blowing audiences away and becoming Netflix’s #1 most-watched film over the summer, a sequel for KPop Demon Hunters is officially in the works from Netflix and Sony Animation.

KPop Demon Hunters follows Rumi, Mira and Zoey, three young women who make up the Kpop music group Huntr/x, but they are really demon hunters protecting the world from demons and use their power of song to enforce the magical barrier between the demon world and ours.

The film has become a worldwide phenomenon with the soundtrack breaking streaming records and going platinum, the film becoming Netflix’s most popular title and costumes getting sold out for Halloween. Netflix even took the rare step to release the film in theatres in a sing-along version for a special weekend which proved to be incredibly popular despite already having been on Netflix for two months at that point.

Directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans will return to helm KPop Demon Hunters 2, but it will not arrive anytime soon as reports suggest a 2029 release is likely due to the extensive animation and music seen in the film. This is also in line with Sony Animation as the studio often takes their time developing animated sequels, such as the gaps between the Spider-Verse films with Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse coming out four years after its predecessor or the recently announced sequel to The Mitchells vs. the Machines after its 2021 release, and with production starting early next year Mitchells 2 will take much longer to be released.

We’ll have to wait and see for further news on KPop Demon Hunters 2 and who from the cast may return.

What do you think of the sequels news? Are you excited for more Huntr/x battling demons and addictive music or has ‘Golden’ driven you insane yet? Let us know on our social channels at @FlickeringMyth…

When they aren’t selling out stadiums, Kpop superstars Rumi, Mira and Zoey use their secret identities as badass demon hunters to protect their fans from an ever-present supernatural threat. Together, they must face their biggest enemy yet – an irresistible rival boy band of demons in disguise.

KPop Demon Hunters features the voice talents of Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, May Hong, Ji-young Yoo, Yunjin Kim, Joel Kim Booster, Liza Koshy, Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong, and Byung Hun Lee.
