Netflix buys rights to US release of The Little Prince

March 18, 2016 by Gavin Logan

The new animated feature film The Little Prince was due to be released in the US on March 18th but now THR are reporting that streaming giants Netflix have picked up the rights from Paramount Pictures at the last minute and will air it exclusively on their platform later in the year.

Directed by Oscar nominee Mark Osbourne (Kung-Fu Panda) and starring Jeff Bridges, Rachel McAdams, Benicio Del Toro, Paul Rudd, Marion Cotillard, Ricky Gervais and James Franco, The Little Prince is based on the 1943 novella by French aristocratic writer and poet Antoine de Saint-Exupéry about a pilot who crash lands in the Sahara desert and meets a young boy who helps him understand the true meaning of life. It’s loosely inspired by true life events of the author’s experiences during World War II.

The Little Prince debuted at Cannes last year and has grossed over $100 million worldwide (excluding UK, US and some parts of Europe) and also won France’s Cesar Award for Best Animated Feature.
