Tommy Wiseau has filmed a cameo for The Disaster Artist

March 22, 2016 by Justin Cook

Later this year, the James Franco-directed film adaptation of Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell’s book The Disaster Artist, which chronicles the troubled production of what is oftentimes called the worst film of all time, The Room, will be hitting theaters. Franco will portray writer, director and star of The Room, Tommy Wiseau, but a recent interview with Collider has confirmed that Wiseau himself has filmed a cameo for the film.

Franco was asked a general question about the project while promoting his new movie The Adderall Diaries, when he said, “I’m editing it now. It turned out great. I play Tommy Wiseau, my brother [Dave Franco] plays Greg Sestero, the other actor in The Room. Tommy was involved; contractually we had to give him a cameo opposite me, which was very weird because I was playing him. I don’t know if that’ll end up in the movie or not, but it was a surreal experience to say the least (laughs).”

Over the years, it has become clear that Wiseau doesn’t mind being known as the infamous director responsible for one of cinema’s greatest atrocities, so it should come as no surprise that he makes a “contractually” obligated appearance. Even Franco, admits that it may not make the final cut of the film, but even if it doesn’t, it would surely make for an excellent deleted scene on the home video release.

The star-studded cast of the film also includes Seth Rogen (The Night Before), Zac Efron (Neighbors), Kate Upton (The Other Woman), Ari Graynor (The Sopranos), Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook), Andrew Santino (Sin City Saints), Hannibal Buress (Neighbors) and Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2).
