It’s had a tough time with critics, but that hasn’t stopped Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice from enjoying a record-breaking weekend in North America, with Warner Bros. DC superhero epic pulling in $170.1 million over the Easter weekend.
The film has registered the sixth-biggest opening of all-time, and set records for the biggest Easter opening (overtaking Fast & Furious 7’s $147.2 million), biggest March and pre-summer opening (beating The Hunter Games‘ $152.5 million), and biggest opening for a DC movie (previously The Dark Knight Rises on $160.9 million). In fact, it’s also delievred Warner its best-ever opening weekend, a record that had been held by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 on $169.2 million).
We’re still waiting on the international numbers; the film had been tipped for a $350 million global bow, but will likely exceed that estimate. We’ll keep you posted.
