Alicia Vikander confirms that the Tomb Raider reboot is based upon the 2013 video game

July 21, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Prior to Alicia Vikander’s casting as Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot, director Roar Uthaug (The Wave) revealed that he was taking inspiration from the 2013 Tomb Raider video game, itself a reboot of the franchise, and now Oscar-winner Vikander has confirmed that the movie will adapt the critically-acclaimed game.

“They told me they were doing the film based on the reboot of the game from 2013,” said Vikander in an interview with HitFix. “That is more of an origin story. You get into an emotional aspect of getting to know Lara hopefully in an in-depth way. So I hope that doing a film of the rebooted game will bring something new and fresh that’ll stand on its own two legs.”

The new Tomb Raider movie is set to hit cinemas on March 16th 2018.
