Dancing Ledge and HarperCollins bringing Alistair MacLean’s novels to TV as event series

October 16, 2016 by Amie Cranswick

Deadline is reporting that Dancing Ledge Productions and publisher HarperCollins are partnering up for a series of TV adaptations of the novels of legendary British thriller writer Alistair MacLean.

The site reports that each project will be structured as a four or six-part even series, beginning with San Andreas, his 1984 book set on board a torpedoed World War II hospital ship, with Tony Marchant (The Secret Agent) adapting.

“I doubt there are many bookshelves in the UK that don’t have at least one Alistair MacLean thriller, so the opportunity to work with HarperCollins to adapt a number of them for screen is incredibly exciting,” said Laurence Bowen of Dancing Ledge. “If you then add a writer with the talent of Tony Marchant to the mix, we have a wonderful marriage of nail-biting action and emotional complexity.”

A veteran of World War II as a member of the Royal Navy, MacLean wrote a number of bestselling thriller and adventure stories, including the likes of The Guns of Navarone, Ice Station Zebra and Where Eagles Dare.
