Ben Affleck may not direct The Batman if the script doesn’t come together

January 1, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Over the past few months Ben Affleck has stated on a number of occasions that he’s yet to finish the script for The Batman to his satisfaction, despite Warner Bros.’ eagerness to begin production on the movie early this year.

Well, speaking to The Guardian, Affleck has once again reiterated that he’s not quite happy with the screenplay, and has now said that he’s prepared to walk away from the project rather than putting out something sub-par.

“That’s the idea,” said Affleck when asked about directing the solo movie. “But it’s not a set thing and there’s no script. If it doesn’t come together in a way I think is really great I’m not going to do it.”

Assuming Affleck doesn’t finish the script in time, you’d have to imagine Warner Bros. would opt to push back production, rather than having Affleck bail on what’s sure to be a big money maker for the studio… right?

The Batman is scheduled for release at some point in 2018, with Warner Bros. eyeing a spring start date for the film, which will see Affleck joined by the returning Jeremy Irons as Alfred and new addition Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke.
