Willem Dafoe joins the cast of Kenneth Branagh’s Murder on the Orient Express

January 6, 2017 by Justin Cook

John Wick and The Grand Budapest Hotel actor Willem Dafoe has become the latest addition to the all-star cast of this year’s Murder on the Orient Express.

The news about the Kenneth Branagh-directed film adaptation of Agatha Christie’s classic 1934 murder-mystery novel comes from Deadline, who claims that Dafoe will play Gerhard Hardman, an undercover detective.

Dafoe has pulled off the amazing feat of remaining relevant in Hollywood for the past 30 years, starring in an eclectic mix of films and never failing to deliver a memorable performance. Between Platoon, The Boondock Saints, Spider-Man, Finding Dory and much more, he takes risks and is better for constantly moving outside of his comfort zone as an actor.

In the future, he can be seen in Yimou Zhang’s The Great Wall, Adam Wingard’s Death Note and the DCEU’s Justice League and Aquaman.

On top of directing, Branagh will star in Murder on the Orient Express as detective Hercule Poirot alongside Johnny Depp, Daisy Ridley, Michelle Pfeiffer, Penélope Cruz, Lucy Boynton, Judi Dench, Josh Gad, Leslie Odom Jr. and Michael Peña. Branagh, Ridley Scott, Simon Kinberg, Mark Gordon, Michael Schaefer, Aditya Sood and Judy Hofflund are set to produce with a screenplay from Michael Green (Logan). The film is slated for a theatrical release on November 22nd.
