First Impressions – Battle Splash

March 3, 2017 by Daniel James Thomas

Daniel James Thomas with some first impressions of Battle Splash…

Battle Splash is a game currently in development by Mai Nguyen Binh Hung, a solo designer and programmer who has taken on the task of making this game the best it can be – go Mai! It is set to bring a whole new concept to the world of combat by promoting more fun with less violence.

We’re all accustomed to violence, and I’m sure I’m right in saying that we all enjoy it within our games – we love giving brutality to those who think they’re better than us! Or is that just me? Moving on…

Battle Splash is currently in Pre-Alpha, and I thought I’d give it a go and share my thoughts – and maybe convince you guys to give it a go too! This game is basically team vs team games where the weapons are water-related, much like a water fight. Water Sniper, Water Bazooka, Water Grenade and even a Water Pistol. With both the combat and water fight elements mixed together, Battle Splash has become, and is continuing to grow, as a game that anyone of any age can enjoy.

Starting up the game we’re greeted by some interesting graphics, especially considering the game come from a lone developer, so congratulations on that Mai! The tone is relaxed and you feel prepped to play! I definitely was, and was excited to see what this game could offer. So – it’s time to battle!

Before heading into battle you get to choose one of four characters, each with different traits and stats, bringing a variety of play styles into each round. You can even choose to play against AI or even multiplayer!

The in-game combat is challenging, even when going up against the AI. There are constant battles going on between the teams, and splashes of water everywhere. The challenge is great – the AI’s aren’t easy, and they will splash you like you’ve never splashed before!

Games in Battle Splash can last for as long as you set it for; they can go on for ten minutes or more – and for the length of time I put down I was constantly entertained. For this reason, I would highly recommend anyone to give this game a go, even though it’s in Alpha. You can check it out here.
