According to Deadline there are plans in the works to remake the classic sci-fi horror The Fly.
The new film is set to be helmed by director J.D. Dillard, an upcoming filmmaker generating positive buzz for his Sundance hit Sleight. He will be working from a script co-written with Alex Theurer.
The Fly follows a brilliant but eccentric scientist who begins to transform into a giant man/fly hybrid after one of his experiments goes horribly wrong. Based on a short story by George Langelaan, The Fly was first adapted for the screen in 1958 by director Kurt Neumann, while David Cronenberg remade it in 1986 with his cult classic body horror treasure starring Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis.
This continues the trend of Hollywood rebooting a number of properties, including another revered horror classic It (based on the best-selling novel by Stephen King) which actually received good word-of-mouth from its footage reveal at the SXSW Festival.
