Chris Hemsworth thought he was fired after Captain America: Civil War absence

March 15, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Thor actor Chris Hemsworth thought that his absence from Captain America: Civil War meant he was fired.

Civil War was huge, the superhero team up flick included a who’s who of Marvel characters, and everyone was there. Well, everyone that is except for Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner. And Hemsworth has now revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that he initially thought that he had been fired because he didn’t get the call to action.

“I was like, ‘What? Are we being fired?’ Marvel quickly reassured us, ‘No you guys have got your own journey going on, and in order for that to work you can’t be a part of this one.’ Look, it turned out just perfect because we got to do a whole different kind of thing we wouldn’t have able to do otherwise”.

The journey alluded to there is of course Hemsworth’s new adventure with The Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok. Not only was he not fired, but he is now getting to appear in what many feel to be the most potentially exciting Thor adventure to date, adding a slice of comedy and some serious green muscle to the God of Thunder’s world.

In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk.

Thor: Ragnarok is being directed by Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) and features Marvel veterans Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Idris Elba as Heimdall and Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk alongside Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster, Karl Urban as Skurge and Sam Neill in an as-yet-unrevealed role. It is set for release on November 3rd, 2017.
