Regina King and John Ridley reuniting for No Place Safe

April 12, 2017 by Gary Collinson

American Crime star Regina King is set to reunite with series creator John Ridley to develop No Place Safe, a new drama for FX which is based on the Atlanta child murders of the 1970s and 1980s.

Based on Kim Reid’s memoir and penned by Wendy Calhoun (Empire), the series will take place in 1979 and is told through the eyes of Reid, young African-American teenager whose mother is an investigator in the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office and part of the task force searching for the serial killer who was responsible for the deaths of 29 victims.

The synopsis for the book reads: “Between 1979 and 1981, twenty-nine children disappeared from the streets of Atlanta. In this compelling memoir, Kim Reid grows up in the shadow of her mother’s job as an investigator on the Missing and Murdered Children case. Thirteen-year-old Kim Reid will never forget the summer of 1979. When she isn’t thinking about boys, makeup, and starting high school in the fall, she’s busy taking care of her little sister while her single mom works as a cop. By midsummer, the discovery of two murdered teens along a quiet Atlanta road changes everything.”

King won two Emmy Awards for her work on American Crime, and will star in No Place Safe, as well as executive producing alongside Ridley, Reina King and Michael McDonald.
