Jesse Eisenberg to write, direct and star in The Market TV series for Bad Robot

April 29, 2017 by Ricky Church

Jesse Eisenberg will be moving from the big to small screen for a television series called The Market. He’s pairing with J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robots Productions on the show, but Deadline also says Eisenberg will take a more active role than just starring in it. He will also write and even direct the half-hour single camera comedy, as well as executive producing with Abrams and Ben Stephenson.

The Market tells the story of Harold Katzman, a recently widowed man who moves to Pittsburgh to live with his adult son, Stan, played by Eisenberg. Both men coincidentally lose their jobs at the same time due to the poor economy and have to navigate a very tough job market as they attempt to get back on their feet.

Eisenberg has had experience writing in his career, having written several plays and contributes frequently to The New Yorker and even a collection of stories called Bream Gives Me Hiccups. He will next be seen in Justice League, reprising his Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice role as Lex Luthor. Bad Robot, meanwhile, has been getting more into the television scene, producing the highly acclaimed Westworld for HBO and prepping for Hulu’s Castle Rock, an anthology series set in the world of Stephen King’s stories.

There’s no word yet on where or when The Market will air, or who will play Eisenberg’s father, but hopefully we’ll hear more about this project soon.
