Doug Liman explains why he left the director’s chair on Gambit

May 9, 2017 by Robert Kojder

As the release for Doug Liman’s latestThe Wall (a war film starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson and John Cena) quickly approaches this weekend, the Edge of Tomorrow director has found himself explaining his reasons for walking away from the oft-delayed X-Men spinoff Gambit.

Speaking to Collider, Liman stated: “I never formed a connection. Many of these movies, I don’t have the connection on day one, but I find the connection. I just never found it. I don’t always find a connection. I want to make a movie that, if anybody else made it, it would be different.”

In other news, Liman recently confirmed that the long-awaited Edge of Tomorrow sequel is titled Live Die Repeat and Repeat and will reunite both Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. Meanwhile, he also discussed his upcoming DC project Justice League Dark, stating that it will be “very character driven and intimate” and revealing some of the classic horror movies from which he’s taking his inspiration.

Gambit meanwhile has no director attached, although Channing Tatum is still on board to play the title character.
