THR is reporting that Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail has signed on to write and direct Universal Pictures’ long-gestating Bermuda Triangle movie.
The project, which has had previous drafts by Miles Millar & Alfred Gough and Juliet Snowden & Stiles White, is shrouded in secrecy, but it will revolve around the area in the Caribbean where numerous ships and planes have disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Esmail will also produce the project with Chad Hamilton of Esmail Corp and Dylan Clark of Dylan Clark Productions.
Esmail is best known for creating USA Network’s acclaimed hacker series Mr. Robot, which is set to launch its third season this October. Amazon has also recently placed a two season order for his new show Homecoming, starring Julia Roberts.
