James McAvoy is not a fan of Professor Xavier’s bald head

July 31, 2017 by Jordan Jones

Professor Charles Xavier has many defining traits in the X-Men series, but one of the most striking is his completely bald head. Interestingly, we our only just now getting a bald professor Xavier in the First Class films, as we see Professor X shedding his mane at the end of X-Men: Age of Apocalypse, which means that James McAvoy will now have to shave his head whenever a new X-Men film comes around with his name on it. How does the actor feel about it? Well, not great apparently. Speaking to Cinema Blend, McAvoy had this to say:

“I used to like the fact that it afforded me a certain amount of anonymity but it no longer does that. Since I did two movies that everybody saw where I had a bald head, now it’s like a fucking beacon. But what do I like about it? Not a lot at the moment. I like when it’s been about five or seven days going in, then it’s cool but when it’s properly skinhead I look a bit weird. I do like the fact that I don’t have to do anything in the morning.”

If being bald is not your style of choice, then it can’t be easy to go from X:Men to Split (and back to X-Men!). Luckily, McAvoy’s performance/s in Split was highly praised, so perhaps that makes it all worth it. Regardless, with X-Men: Dark Phoenix on the horizon, he better get used to this particular look.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set for release on November 2nd, 2018. Simon Kinberg is directing a cast that includes franchise veterans Michael Fassbender (Magneto), James McAvoy (Professor X), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler) and Evan Peters (Quicksilver) alongside Jessica Chastain as Lilandra and Lamar Johnson in an as-yet-unrevealed role.
